About the Sea Gypsy condos

Sea Gypsy Front Office

What happened to the motel?

Chances are, if you've stayed at the Sea Gypsy in the past, you probably remember it as the Sea Gypsy Motel. Each unit has always been privately owned, and the complex was officially known as the Sea Gypsy Condominium Motel during the first four decades it served vacationers on the Oregon Coast. During these years, the Sea Gypsy's condominium owners combined their resources through a homeowner's association to operate a motel with paid staff, a front office and daily maid service.

The Sea Gypsy goes private

Sea Gypsy Motel SignThe Sea Gypsy board voted in 2009 to dissolve the rental pool, effectively making the Sea Gypsy a complex of privately owned and managed condominiums. Indeed, many relics of the motel still exist. A sign on Highway 101 still points to the Sea Gypsy Motel. But the Sea Gypsy is still the same place you've come to know and love. The pool and sauna are still open and we still have arguably the best beach access in all of Lincoln City and maybe even the Oregon coast.

This is good news for the vacationer

It's still very easy to reserve a condo at the Sea Gypsy so long as you plan ahead. Prices have fallen dramatically. We rent our condo for $99 a night in the fall and $89 in the winter, which, the last time we checked, was close to the best deal in the whole complex. When the Sea Gypsy was still operated as a motel, the rate for one night during the summer was $159. We can extend you our low prices because there's no exorbitant overhead involved. Unit 222 is a superb condo that has been owned by our family for 40 years and has been upgraded since the motel ceased operation.
